God Who Breaks Our "Safety Zone"
God called Moses out of his comfortable hiding place—the "Safe Zone" of the Midian wilderness—where he had lived trapped by his past wounds and failures.
A truly meaningful life is not one that enjoys worldly comfort, but one that discerns God's will and responds to His calling.
"Take Off Your Sandals" — Surrendering Rights and Familiarity
In the culture of that era, taking off one's shoes meant surrendering sovereignty and accepting the status of a servant bound to absolute obedience.
Genuine prayer is not a tool to fulfill our own desires.
It is a spiritual pathway through which we cast off the shoes of our own will, experience, and rights, and fully submit to God's sovereignty.
The Great History of Prayer Set in Motion by Obedience
The Holy Spirit persistently stirs us when we settle into the complacency of familiarity.
When our community overcame spiritual burdens to resume daily early morning and Friday night prayer meetings, God prepared a greater, more abundant grace of prayer for the church.
The moment we break out of familiarity and take off our shoes, a great history of prayer begins.
(Ice Breaker)
Q. What is the spiritual "Safety Zone" in your current daily or spiritual life where you feel comfortable and complacent, thinking, "Things are just fine the way they are?"
First, prayer is a holy time of meeting God.
Reflection Question: What are the "sandals" (your rights, stubbornness, or past experiences) that you are still holding onto tightly in both hands, even while kneeling before God?
Second, prayer is the beginning of God's guidance and history of salvation.
Reflection Question: In the midst of a scorching, harsh wilderness where you cannot see an inch ahead (whether in career, family, or future uncertainties), what is the specific prayer request you must cry out to God for without losing heart?
Third, prayer is meeting the God who is faithful to His covenant in a personal way.
Reflection Question: Trusting in the unwavering faithfulness of God's character, what is the clear and specific direction of prayer you need to pursue today while standing firmly on His covenant?
